Convert Windows Server GUI to Core

From Windows 2008, installations are two types: Server with GUI(full installation) and Server Core. From Windows 2012, it is also possible to convert Windows Server GUI to Core and Windows Server Core to GUI. Windows Core version had less features than Windows GUI(full installation). To change GUI to core or Core to GUI, user should login with administrator privileges.

Convert Windows Server GUI to Core Using PowerShell

1. Login into the Windows Server 2012 or later version with administrator privileges.

2. Open PowerShell, then enter the following command.

Uninstall-WindowsFeature -Name Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra, Server-Gui-Shell -Restart

3. It will start conversion to GUI to Core and reboots it automatically.
