Difference between Local User and Domain User

Local User:

  1. In Windows, a local user is one whose username and encrypted password are stored on the computer itself.
  2. A user account created in local database of a computer.
  3. Local Users are generally used in WORKGROUP model.
  4. Local Users can login only on the respective computer.

Domain User

  1. A domain user is one whose username and password are stored on a domain controller rather than the computer the user is logging into.
  2. A user account created in ACTIVE DIRECTORY database.
  3. Domain users are used in DOMAIN model.
  4. Domain users can logon to any computer in the DOMAIN.
